The Health Management Academy

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at The Academy

As an organization that brings people together, we are committed to creating inclusive communities where people can show up as their whole selves, be seen, and feel appreciated.

While we acknowledge bias as a part of the human condition, we strive to create a culture where inclusion, belonging, and empathy, are our natural reflexes.

In support of this belief system, we’ve articulated these commitments to members, our staff, and the broader Academy community. These commitments are not discrete initiatives; rather, they are infused into the way we operate.

Measure to Improve

We believe measurement is a key ingredient in driving outcomes. We commit to transparently tracking a broad set of metrics related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging both at our organization and for our members. This data will inform our action.

Expand Opportunities

For healthcare to work for everyone, we believe people from all backgrounds must have a place in the ecosystem. We commit to expanding opportunities at The Academy, with a specific focus on those that are currently or historically underrepresented. Moreover, we will work across the industry to diversify the pipeline for executive board seats and leadership positions.

Create Space for Candid Dialogue

At its core, The Academy creates spaces for learning and understanding. We commit to intentionally creating spaces where our members and team can meaningfully connect around topics that will expand thinking and evolve approaches in support of health equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Renee DeSilva, CEO

“At The Academy, diversity and inclusion is not just one 'thing' - it’s the way we do all things. I invite you to read my reflections on race and health and share your thoughts.”
