Relieve Health System Background & Program In-Brief

Relieve Health (pseudonym) operates approximately 10 hospitals in a diverse region spanning urban centers to rural areas. Facing competitive pressures, Relieve recognized the need to improve its patient engagement approaches beyond traditional demographic targeting.

Its innovation team's expertise in human-centered design methods provided the methodological foundation needed to better understand user behavior patterns. The system segments both patients and team members, viewing them as distinct consumer populations:

  • For its employees, the system has developed five team personas using behavioral attributes rather than traditional role-based categories.

  • For patients, Relieve uses project-based initiatives to test its segmentation approaches, focusing on specific, high-priority clinical programs. An example of this approach is the eight behavioral segments developed for obstetrics business growth. From this, the system developed differentiated program offerings.

To address workforce shortages, the system has made use of agentic AI to minimize employee burden while personalizing patient interactions. Through this work, Relieve has identified new behavior-based engagement patterns that challenge conventional digital engagement assumptions.
