The Health Management Academy’s (THMA) Vice President of Finance Forum is your chance to connect with health system Vice Presidents of Finance who play a pivotal role in health system decision-making across finance, strategy, operations, and system-wide growth.

THMA’s Vice President of Finance Forum gathers twice each year - once in Spring and once in Fall - for an immersive, retreat-style event. The Vice President of Finance Forum is opening space for additional industry members. We are seeking industry members who can bring important thought leadership and ideas to drive health forward.

Planned topics include:

Finance and Strategy Alignment in a Changing Market: Health system finance and strategy leaders explored how to balance financial sustainability with innovation and care transformation. Discussions centered on managing tradeoffs between short-term margin pressures and long-term strategic growth in an increasingly volatile market.

Risk and Resilience in the Post-H.R.1 Era: Building on policy updates from THMA’s Health Policy team, Banner Health and other systems shared how they are assessing and mitigating financial risks tied to new federal legislation. Attendees examined scenario planning, vulnerability benchmarking, and targeted risk mitigation approaches to strengthen resilience amid ongoing regulatory change.

Data-Driven Financial Planning and Growth Strategy: Leaders from Mayo Clinic, Allina Health, and THMA’s Finance Leaders Survey shared insights on analytics-driven decision-making and long-range planning. Sessions highlighted how financial teams are rethinking forecasting, capital allocation, and diversification strategies to support sustainable growth and operational stability.

Collaborating on Cost Management and Population Health Innovation: Members discussed how finance leaders can partner across functions to redesign population health strategies and address rising costs. Real-world examples demonstrated how joint finance–clinical collaboration is driving smarter investments, optimizing workforce models, and improving value-based performance.
