After months of uncertainty and public struggles, Steward Health Care filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a bid to restructure more than $1B in debt.

• According to a spokesperson and bankruptcy filings, Steward operates 31 hospitals across eight states, including eight hospitals in Massachusetts. Unlike most hospital systems in the state, Steward is for-profit.
