On June 25, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) unveiled draft legislation that would comprehensively reform the 340B drug discount program. The draft is Cassidy’s first comprehensive legislative proposal for 340B, following years of hearings and the release of a lengthy report last year.
If enacted, the legislation would convert 340B from a discount that health systems capture by default into one they must continuously earn and defend—with new limits on eligible prescriptions and contract pharmacies, and a codified rebate scheme that could force systems to front cash and wait on repayment.
