Despite the city of Cleveland having some of the most renowned healthcare institutions in the world, it continues to observe large disparities across its communities. Some areas experience a life expectancy difference of 23 years.1 In response, The MetroHealth System launched the Institute for H.O.P.E.TM (Health, Opportunity, Partnership, and Empowerment) in 2019 to systematically take aim at the social determinants of health (SDOH), the economic and cultural roadblocks that affect 80% of a patient’s clinical outcomes.
