Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kennedy says the department will be undergoing a “dramatic restructuring.” In a press release published on March 27, Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced major shake-ups. HHS will be:

  • Reducing its current full-time workforce by 10,000 employees

  • Consolidating its 28 divisions to 15

  • Reducing its 10 regional offices to 5

7,400 of the announced terminations will come from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

And, among the 15 newly consolidated divisions will be the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA), which will centralize the core functions of the Department.

In the press release, Secretary Kennedy promised that “We aren't just reducing bureaucratic sprawl. We are realigning the organization with its core mission and our new priorities in reversing the chronic disease epidemic. This Department will do more – a lot more – at a lower cost to the taxpayer.”
